Since 2012, we have been part of the close-knit wine community of Serralunga d’Alba, the quintessential Barolo village. From the heart of Piedmont, we personally visit our winemakers and select only wines that we ourselves enjoy drinking and are happy to cellar. Nicolaas, for example, also regularly jumps into his Jeep to secure the very last cases of a special vintage.
Thanks to our close ties with the region, we have built a carefully curated portfolio of small-scale, often organically working family producers.
BAROLO & CO is not an ordinary online wine shop, but a direct connection to the vineyards of Piedmont. Barolo is literally and figuratively in our blood.
Beautiful traditional Nebbiolo from Benevelli. Clear, washing and pure. Lots of fruit and nicely present tannins. An almost transparent, rust-red color in the glass. Black and red fruits predominate, blackberries and cherries. Slightly spicy and firm aftertaste. Pleasant and spicy in the mouth, full and characteristic, dry and clean on the tongue. Pure Nebbiolo as Nebbiolo was meant to be!
The authentic winery Benevelli Piero is located in Monforte d'Alba in the frazione San Giuseppe. Today the house is run by Massimo, a modest man who produces some beautiful wines in the traditional way. For the maturation of red wines for storage (except for Barolo Mosconi). only large wood is used, with the exception that the Barolos are raised in tonneaux for the first year. This produces three quality Barolos, from his three different vineyards, all located in Monforte and of which Le Coste is located next to his cantina. Massimo is of the old school, there is not even a sign on the road to indicate that you are actually at a winery, let alone that there is a website available for this quality house. These are the houses we love. Authentic, honest, with respect for the country and its traditions. A winery after our own hearts!
