Diano d'Alba

Diano d'Alba lies on the northeastern edge of the Barolo area, between Alba, Grinzane Cavour and Serralunga d'Alba. The village sits at around 500 metres. From the top you look out over the castles of Grinzane Cavour and Serralunga, and on a clear day you can see the Alps behind them. The Diano d'Alba DOCG area lies between the Barolo and Barbaresco appellations.
Diano d'Alba is officially one of the eleven Barolo municipalities, but here everything revolves around Dolcetto. The village has its own DOCG, the Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba, and was well ahead of its time. As early as 1986, the best vineyards, the sorì, were officially mapped. That is why you often see the name of a sorì on the label of a bottle of Diano. The Dolcettos from here are deep red with a purple glow, juicy and fruity, with the typical slightly bitter finish.
For Barolo, Diano d'Alba has three MGAs: Gallaretto, La Vigna and Sorano. Sorano is shared with Serralunga. Gallaretto borders the Fontanafredda estate and has a sandier soil, which makes for fragrant, elegant Barolos.
