Cerretta | Barolo MGA

Cerretta is one of the most imposing hills in the entire Barolo appellation and consists of several subzones with varying altitudes, exposures, and soils: the cooler, uniform Cerretta Piani, the higher Bricco Cerretta which connects to Prapò, an east-facing slope above Teodoro, a central basin near the hamlet of Cerretta itself, and a steep flank towards Gianetto and Bricco Voghera. The soil alternates between the Lequio formation and sandy Sant'Agata Fossili marl.
Despite this great diversity, the wines of Cerretta show a remarkably consistent style: a solid structure that can be somewhat closed and restrained in its youth, but which opens up and becomes more expressive over the years. An exception is Cerretta Piani, where the wines are generally somewhat fruitier and more open, without sacrificing depth.
