Terlo | Barolo MGA

Terlo is the oldest named cru within the municipality of Barolo and is situated almost entirely on one continuous, east-facing slope, with a narrow strip of vegetation at the top where layers of white Diano sandstone poke through here and there. Directly below this follows a band of sandy Sant'Agata Fossili marl, followed by a wider strip of stratified Sant'Agata Fossili marl.
This succession of soil types seems to have little influence on the character of the wines: Barolos from Terlo generally share a generous structure and a firm tannic impact, although complexity is not always its strongest point. Within the MGA, the sub-areas Vigna Costa Grimaldi and the historic Via Nuova are distinguished.
