THE WINE

Very fine Dolcetto from Boasso. Despite its youth, it is a very mature wine with a lot of body and a long aftertaste. Deep ruby red, almost purple color. Earthy, overripe black fruit, raspberry, slightly spicy nose. Fresh and harmonious in the mouth, negligible tannin and a beautiful elegant acidity

FRANCO BOASSO

A seemingly endless winding road takes you past various postcard-worthy views through the hamlet of Parafada towards Gabutti, home of the Boassos, a winery that has improved enormously in quality in recent years. Namesake and winegrower Franco, together with his sons Ezio and Claudio, has managed to take his Barolos to a higher level. Certainly helped by the fact that these come from the famous Gabutti, Margheria and Lazzarito vineyards. Important crus in Serralunga for many years. In addition to the red wines, they carry a beautiful Arneis from a beautifully situated vineyard in the Roero and a Moscati d'Asti from Serralunga.

In addition to the cantina producing 30,000 bottles of wine, the family runs an agriturismo, which, like his private house, is located in the middle of the two vineyards Gabutti and Gabutti-Marianot, a stone's throw from Serralunga.
Since the moment they bottled under their own label, the Boasso winery has been working in the traditional way, i.e. a long period of maceration and fermentation and maturation of at least 36 months in large wooden barrels (bott). We are the only importer in the Netherlands to import the wines from this beautiful family business and we are proud of that. In addition to the Barolo, they also produce a delicious Dolcetto, Barbera Superiore and Langhe Nebbiolo as well as a real Arneis from the Roero region and a Moscato d'Asti from a field in Serralunga(!)

Tasting Notes

Juicy and full-bodied wine with ripe dark fruit, raspberry, and subtle spicy and earthy notes, beautifully balanced with fresh acidity, soft tannins, and a long finish.

Food Pairing

Delicious with antipasti, salami, pasta, or pizza. Also excellent with a simple aperitivo. Serve at 16-18 °C.

About the Winery

A seemingly endless winding road leads you past various postcard-worthy views through the hamlet of Parafada towards Gabutti, home to the Boassos, a winery that has gained tremendously in quality in recent years. Namesake and winemaker Franco, together with his sons Ezio and Claudio, has managed to take his Barolos to a higher level in particular. This is certainly aided by the fact that they come from the famous Gabutti, Margheria, and Lazzarito vineyards—long-standing, important crus in Serralunga. In addition to the red wines, they offer a magnificent Arneis from a beautifully situated vineyard in the Roero and a Moscato d'Asti from Serralunga.

Alongside the cantina, which produces 30,000 bottles of wine, the family manages an agriturismo, which, like their private home, is situated right between the Gabutti and Gabutti-Marianot vineyards, a stone's throw from Serralunga.

Since they began bottling under their own label, the Boasso winery has worked in the traditional way: a long period of maceration and fermentation followed by maturation of at least 36 months in large wooden barrels (botte). We are the sole importer of the wines from this wonderful family business in the Netherlands, and we are proud of that. In addition to the Barolo, they also produce a delicious Dolcetto, Barbera Superiore, and Langhe Nebbiolo, as well as a genuine Arneis from the Roero region and a Moscato d'Asti from a field in Serralunga(!)

Vineyard

The grapes come from Meriame in Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe region. The Boasso vineyards are located around the family estate, near the well-known Barolo vineyards of Serralunga.

Vinification & Ageing

Boasso works in a traditional way, with careful fermentation and maceration to extract as much fruit and structure as possible from the grapes. The Dolcetto is aged without dominant oak influence, so that its character and freshness are preserved.

Ageing Potential

A Dolcetto that, due to its full structure and ripe character, can handle a bit more than a simple, young style. It offers the most pleasure now until about 3–4 years after the harvest.
