Cru (MGA) MARENCA

Marenca is amphitheater-shaped, located in Serralunga, and flanked by the hamlet of Garombo, Serralunga itself, and on the other side, the shaded side of Vigna Rionda. It is one of the smallest MGAs within the Barolo appellation. Connoisseurs (both Renato Ratti and Masnaghetti) agree that Marenca produces complex, concentrated fruit and is one of the better MGAs in Serralunga; 91% of Marenca is therefore planted with Nebbiolo. The small cru (7.46 ha) is divided between Gaja and Luigi Pira, the latter of whom is the only one to produce a Barolo Cru from it.
