Le Coste di Monforte | Barolo MGA

Geological map of the Barolo MGA Le Coste di Monforte.

Le Coste di Monforte is located in the southernmost, eastern part of the municipality of Monforte d'Alba and forms a single ridge together with Ravera di Monforte: one side faces northwest towards Mosconi, while the other, slightly more favorably situated side, faces southeast towards the Alta Langa, at altitudes between 370 and 500 meters. The soil consists of sandy Sant'Agata Fossili marl, with occasional Diano sandstone.

This slope receives relatively little attention from producers, while connoisseurs believe the soil and location deserve more. The wines that do reach the market generally have good substance and intensity, although they rarely match the character of neighboring MGAs such as Mosconi, Ginestra, or Ravera di Monforte.
