Piero Benevelli

In Monforte d'Alba, in the San Giuseppe district, you will find the authentic and traditional winery Benevelli Piero. Massimo, the son of the founder, is in charge here and produces three very beautiful Barolos. Massimo is a modest winemaker who, together with his family, produces wines in a traditional way. For the aging of their red cellar wines, only large wood is used, with the exception of the Barolos, which are aged for the final year in tonneaux. The Barolos all come from his cru vineyards in Monforte d'Alba: Ravera di Monforte, Le Coste di Monforte, and Mosconi.

In addition to the high-quality Barolos, Massimo produces four red wines that are all authentic to the region: Langhe Freisa, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, and a Langhe Nebbiolo, each and every one of them pure and genuine. It is not without reason that the winery has "Famiglia Contadina" (farming family) on its label. That is how they feel, that is who they have been for 100 years, and that is how they will remain. The same applies to their wines, which are unadorned; the estate's philosophy is that you should be able to taste the grape and the terroir in the wines. Massimo is not particularly into PR anyway; until recently, there wasn't even a sign by the road to indicate that you had actually arrived at the winery. Nor do they have any intention of launching a website. These are the estates we love. Authentic, honest, and with respect for the land and tradition.
