Tasting Notes

Aromas of ripe cherry, red fruit, herbs, and subtle oriental spices. Full-bodied and layered on the palate, with fresh acidity, ripe tannins, and a long, elegant finish. A refined Barolo with beautiful tension.

Food Pairing

Delicious with roasted duck breast, ossobuco, or a classic game ragout. Also wonderful with mushroom ravioli, pasta with truffle, and aged Parmesan. Serve at 17 °C.

About the Winery

In 1966, Stefano’s grandfather inherited exactly one hectare of land. Since 2019, this hectare has been cultivated, pampered, and cherished by Stefano himself. It is here that he grows the grapes for his Nebbiolo and Dolcetto wines.

The vineyard is 25 to 30 years old and nestles against the Brea Cru, which is managed entirely by the quality winery Brovia. The fruit for the Barbera comes from an old vineyard in Monforte owned by his uncle.

Work in the vineyard is done entirely by hand, with as little intervention as possible and, where feasible, organically and naturally. For instance, bull's blood, an organic fertilizer, is used to enrich the soil. During the harvest, Stefano selects the grapes by hand himself. An initial selection also takes place in August, during which an average of 40% of the fruit is pruned away.

In the wine cellar, work is also carried out as naturally as possible, without the addition of cultured yeasts and with a light, manual pressing of the grapes. Stefano currently ages his Nebbiolo wines in tonneaux, but as soon as sufficient fruit becomes available, he intends to switch to traditional large botti for maturation.

Stefano's star is clearly on the rise. His wines are in high demand and, due to the small production, scarce. Consequently, they are supplied exclusively on order and via pre-subscription. He increases his production slightly every year. Ultimately, he aims to grow to about 7,000 bottles per year, which is also the full capacity of the small winery.

Vineyard

Originating from Cerrati in Serralunga d’Alba, a relatively cool vineyard site. The location provides extra freshness and elegance, while the Serralunga origin gives the wine its characteristic structure and depth.

Vinification & Ageing

Harvested by hand and strictly selected, followed by spontaneous fermentation without added yeasts. The Nebbiolo is aged in tonneaux, working as naturally and gently as possible to preserve the character of the wine.

Ageing Potential

The 2020 combines ripe fruit and vibrant acidity with ripe tannins and good structure. Already attractive and accessible, it will continue to develop beautifully with further bottle aging. Suitable for cellaring until approximately 2038–2040.
