SCARZELLO

Familiewijngoed Scarzello in het hart van Barolo, met wijngaarden en traditionele kelders, geleid door Federico en Federica.

The Scarzello family is deeply rooted in Barolo. The winery, which has been in the family for generations, is currently run with great passion by Federico and his wife Federica, who continue the traditional method of making Barolo according to family recipe. The wines of Scarzello are therefore a true reflection of Barolo itself. Since 1930, the Scarzello family has remained faithful to their way of winemaking. The Barolos they produce undergo long maceration and aging in large oak casks (botti), making them wines built for long-term aging.

The cantina is located in the heart of Barolo and has a small production of around 30,000 bottles per year. All work in both the vineyard and the cellar is carried out by the family themselves.

Although Scarzello does not have the same name recognition as some of the other major producers in Barolo, the wines they produce are highly regarded. Their Barolos can be found on the wine lists of renowned restaurants around the world. The Sarmassa Vigna Merenda comes from the best part of the vineyard of the same name in Barolo. Scarzello stands for quality: in lesser vintages, grapes from the Sarmassa vineyard are used in the Comune di Barolo, ensuring that Sarmassa consistently maintains a high level of quality. In any case, they produce very interesting wines, including a highly approachable Nebbiolo and a complex Barbera from the Paiagallo cru in Barolo, which, after aging in large oak casks, is further refined in amphora for the final months.

We feel privileged to be able to offer these beautiful wines in the Netherlands.
