BAROLO
Namesake of the appellation and birthplace of the famous king of wines himself. It was here in Barolo where Giulietta Falletti (Marchioness of Barolo) wanted to make a Bordeaux-like wine together with the Frenchman Louis Oudart. Together with Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri and Carlo Alberto di Savoia (king at the time), she was the founder of the current Barolo wines.
Today Barolo has approximately 700 inhabitants and is located in the south-west of the appellation. The soils in the vineyards consist of both Diano sandstone and Sant' Agata marl which produce two different types of Barolo. Barolo has 37 cru vineyards of which Cannubi is the most famous. Barolo from Barolo is often aromatic and pronounced, balanced with fairly soft tannins.
