MONFORTE D'ALBA
Monforte d'Alba is located in the extreme South-East corner of the appellation and is a fairly large and lively village by Langhe standards with approximately 2000 inhabitants. The higher center houses a real amphitheater where, among other things, the famous Monforte Jazz takes place. There is a lively square with several restaurants and wine bars.
Due to its location, Monforte has a wide variety of Barolo wines, but generally produces powerful, tannin-rich wines with a lot of aging potential on a total of approximately 197 hectares of mostly steep vineyards. Much of the soil composition in Monforte is similar to that of Serralunga.
Important crus are Bussia, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi. Monforte is also home to the Giacamo Conterno winery, perhaps the most famous Barolo producer.
