The name Favorita comes from the fact that this grape has won the hearts of local wine growers over the centuries and has thus become their favorite grape. Unlike Arneis, Favorita has a longer storage potential.
Probably of Ligurian and even earlier Sardinian origin, as well as the Vermentino or Pigato (to which it is identical). Favorita thrives best on the soils of the Roero and has done so since the end of the 18th century, producing intense white wines and a large production in this area.
The Favorita grape has a white berry, medium to large, spherical or elliptical, short with a medium waxy, greenish skin that turns golden yellow or amber when well exposed to the sun. The yield of the Favorita grape is high and production is constant, which is why it is often decided to apply green pruning to continue to guarantee quality.
Favorita wines have a straw yellow color, bright, with persistent aromas of citrus and fruit. On the palate, Favorita wines are fresh, fruity, refreshing with a soft aftertaste.
Until recently, Favorita grapes were used in blends to add freshness, but in recent years it has matured and Favorita wines are increasingly appreciated as standalone wines. Favorita wines are perfect as an aperitif, with fish, with typical Piedmontese anti pasti dishes or with risotto dishes.
