Brunate | Barolo MGA

Geological map of the Barolo MGA Brunate.

Brunate is an MGA that stretches across the municipalities of La Morra and Barolo. The vineyards are located on a south to south-east facing slope, with soils consisting mainly of calcareous marl of the Marne di Sant’Agata, formed during the Middle Miocene.

Barolos from Brunate are generally known for their combination of elegance, aromatic refinement, and structure. The wines often show aromas of red fruit, flowers such as rose and violets, supplemented by notes of spices, liquorice, and, with aging, more earthy nuances. The tannins are typically refined, with a good balance between freshness and aging potential.

Brunate is one of the historic MGAs of Barolo and forms a transition between the softer, more elegant style often associated with La Morra and the more powerful structure of the surrounding areas. Its location, exposure, and soils contribute to wines with both aromatic complexity and great longevity.
