Tasting Notes

Ripe aromas of blackberries, plums, and dark fruit, complemented by a subtle spiciness and a light hint of cough drops. Round and supple on the palate, with ripe tannins and notes of red berries and ripe dark fruit. A beautifully balanced wine in which elegance and structure converge, with a long, soft, and pleasant finish.

Food Pairing

Delicious with gnocchi and Castelmagno cheese. Pairs well with ossobuco, pheasant, and slow-cooked veal cheek. Also excellent with mushroom ravioli, porcini risotto, and dishes featuring truffle. Lovely with aged Parmesan or Grana Padano. Serve at 17 °C.

About the Winery

Boggione is the kind of discovery you don’t make every year. Tucked away behind the Cannubi vineyard in Barolo lies a tiny winery that produces only about 7,000 bottles of incredible Barolo each year.

For generations, the Boggione family has grown grapes in the Brunate and Cannubi vineyards. Today, only the former remains in the family’s possession. Claudio is a cheerful Barolo winemaker: no-nonsense, hardworking, and down-to-earth. Just as his parents did, and his grandparents before them.

Time seems to have stood still here. In the small office, trophies from competitions line the shelves, an Alpini hat with its characteristic feather hangs on the cabinet, and certificates for awards won by his wines are proudly displayed on the walls. Nonna bustles through the hallway, a wood-paneled ceiling hangs overhead, and a truffle dog barks outside. This is Barolo at its best.

Claudio owns one and a half hectares in the far southeastern part of the famous Brunate cru. Since 2006, he has produced approximately 6,000 bottles of fantastic Barolo annually under his own label. They work in a completely organic and traditional manner, with the wine aged for 24 months in both Slavonian and French oak *botte*.

Vineyard

Originating from Brunate, a prestigious MGA that extends across Barolo and La Morra. The southeast-facing plots of Boggione lie at an altitude of 230–300 meters and produce Nebbiolo with finesse, minerality, and structure.

Vinification & Ageing

Traditionally and organically made, with spontaneous fermentation and long fermentation/maceration. The wine is aged for approximately 24 months in large Slavonian and French oak barrels.

Ageing Potential

The 2020 combines ripe dark fruit with fresh acidity and ripe tannins. Already accessible, but further bottle aging will provide more harmony and tertiary complexity. Can be kept until approximately 2034-2038.
