Intense ruby red with purple reflections. Aromas of cherry, black cherry, and violets, with subtle notes of lavender and clove. Juicy and supple, with fresh acidity, soft tannins, and a slightly balsamic, almond-like finish.

Food Pairing

A versatile wine for everyday Piedmontese cuisine. Delicious with antipasti, salumi, pasta with cheese or tomato, pizza, and light meat dishes. Also surprisingly good as a summer aperitif. Serve at 15–17 °C.

About the Winery

The Abrigo winery is a true family business with a history dating back to 1935. In that year, Ernesto Abrigo, the grandfather of the current owner, arrived in Diano d'Alba, in the hamlet of Berfi. The winery is still located there today.

The estate sits on a kind of cliff southeast of Diano d'Alba, situated exactly between the Barolo and Barbaresco regions, with a panoramic view of the eastern flank of Serralunga. In recent years, the business has been modernized under the leadership of Walter, which has given the wines a boost in quality.

Abrigo produces about 50,000 bottles annually, and the Dolcettos, in particular, are of high quality. The estate's two Diano d'Alba DOCG wines come from vines that are over 40 years old. The Superiore is made from a hand-picked selection and has a cellaring potential of decades, which is extremely long for this grape variety.

Vineyard

Originating from Diano d’Alba, the region known for its characteristic Dolcetto. The south-southeast exposure ensures a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and freshness. For generations, the Abrigo family has focused on Dolcetto from the hills of Diano d’Alba.

Vinification & Ageing

The grapes are gently crushed and destemmed and fermented with the skins for 4–5 days at 25–26 °C. The wine then matures in stainless steel for approximately four months and is bottled in February following the harvest.

Ageing Potential

Mainly intended to be drunk young and fresh. The wine is already drinking beautifully upon release. Preferably drink now up to approximately 3 years after the harvest.
