The wine

Extremely pure Nebbiolo from Marengo. This exceptionally fine wine is made from younger plantings of Nebbiolo on their renowned crus. Fresh, spicy with crispy tannin. Pleasantly dry in the mouth. Very nice with meat and aged cheese. A wine for every day!

MARENGO MARIO

This historic winery was founded in 1899 by the Marengo family. Mario Marengo is the current owner and heir of founder Marco. Since the takeover, he, his wife Jenny and son Stefano (oenologist) have made important changes to the way of wine making and grape growing, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. This has given the house a tremendous boost in quality and Marengo's wines are in great demand at home and abroad.
They own only 6 hectares of vineyard, of which 1.2 hectares are Brunate, one of the most important crus in La Morra and 1 hectare in Bricco delle Viole, one of the most important crus in Barolo. These two vineyards have been owned by the Marengo family for five generations. The first Barolo bottling with the Brunate label was in 1974. Bricco delle Viole did not follow until 1997.
The current winegrower Marco's philosophy is to respect as much as possible what the vineyards give him, the work on the land is more important to him than the work in the cellar.
In addition to the crus, the Barolo Classico, a blend of the Roncaglie, Serradenari, Boiola and Fossati vineyards in La Morra, should not go unmentioned. Personally, we are very impressed with this Classico.

To top it all off, the Marengos own a piece of land on the legendary historic Valmaggiora hill, a kind of amphitheater in Vezza d'Alba, Roero. With the grapes from this exceptional plot they make almost a thousand bottles of Nebbiolo d'Alba.

Marengo's way of making wine can certainly be called modern. Normally this is not our preference, but for Marengo we are happy to make an exception. We pay close attention to what the grape needs to produce the best possible wine. Marco Marengo is the grandmaster in the use of wood and the wines from Marengo will never give you that "typical wooden" mouthfeel that is often the case with less skilled wineries. In addition, the house now increasingly opts for maturation on tonneaux.

With around 30,000 bottles a year and vineyards on the best crus, this is a winery that makes us very happy.
