The wine

Beautiful traditional expression of the Prapo cru by Germano. Bright rust brown in the glass. Notes of sweet rose leaves, cinnamon and red berries. Crispy acidity and grainy tannins on the palate give it an explosive mouthfeel.

About the Winery

Just outside Serralunga, at the foot of the Cerretta hill, lies the Sergio Germano winery. Sergio is the kind of person you don’t easily forget. Not only because of his imposing presence, but above all because of his immense passion for wine.

We have known Sergio and his family for years and love visiting them. The cantina, nestled in the middle of their own vineyards, doesn’t feel like just any winery. It is a true family home, where work is done with respect for tradition, but where there is also always room for innovation.

The story of the Germano family began in 1856 with great-grandfather Francesco. What once started with a few hectares on the Cerretta has now grown into a beautiful winery with many hectares of vineyards in some of the most stunning locations in Serralunga, including Cerretta, Prapò, Lazzarito, and Vigna Rionda.

Sergio made the winery what it is today and remains its driving force. His wife Elena, daughter Maria, and son Elia are, of course, also involved in the family business. This is how knowledge is passed down from generation to generation.

And although the Barolos naturally form the heart of the winery, Sergio has never been afraid to break new ground. His love for white grapes led him years ago to the Alta Langa, where he began working with Chardonnay and Riesling, among others. The Hérzu Riesling and the Blanc de’s have since become just as important a part of the Germano story.

Despite the growth and progress, the Germano winery certainly does not feel like a large company, but rather a true winemaking family.

Vineyard

Coming from Prapò in Serralunga d’Alba, a prestigious MGA at the foot of the Cerretta hill. The marl and clay-rich soil gives the Nebbiolo structure and minerality, while the location provides freshness and aromatic finesse.

Vinification & Ageing

Traditionally vinified with a long maceration of approximately 40 days. The wine is then aged for about 24 months in large oak barrels. This classic method ensures depth and preserves the character of the vineyard.

Ageing Potential

The 2019 combines vibrant acidity and firm tannins with ripe red fruit and a powerful structure. Still young and has plenty of room for further development. Will keep well until approximately 2042–2045.
