The wine
A Barolo from one of our new (cult) wineries. Massimo Grasso is the idiosyncratic winegrower of this cantina and, averse to what is fashionable, makes wines the way he wants. The small production of the house from Perno/Monforte is approximately 15 thousand bottles per year.
This Barolo comes from a historic piece of vineyard that was considered the absolute top in former times, but has been forgotten over time. Massimo still makes a great Barolo and it has recently become available from us.
This Barolo is perfect for the dark days, but one to sit down with. Full aroma; earthy, forest floor and meadow flowers. Spicy tannin in the mouth, licorice, licorice... and you can still taste it an hour later. A Barolo for a piece of wild boar cooked on the fire that you can eat with your hands!

CASCINA TIOLE
On the flanks of the west side of the Perno ridge, literally in the heart of the Barolo appellation, lies the Cascina Tiole winery from 1933, where Massimo Grasso has been making the most beautiful wines since 2004. You will not easily meet a more passionate winemaker. After taking over the management of the house from his father in 2004, he implemented various changes that have improved the quality of the wine. Of the 8 hectares surrounding the house, grapes are grown on 4. Massimo owns, among other things, a large piece of Santo Stefano from which his flagship Barolo is made. He uses a fairly traditional way of making Barolo in which he uses a medium fermentation/maceration in steel, after which maturation takes place in large wood for (depending on the year) at least 24 months. The Barolo wines from Tiole have a long storage potential and therefore only become more interesting over the years.
Those who love a sturdy Barbera for winter evenings can also contact Massimo. He makes a wine from old vines that you can almost stand upright.
Nice small family business with an annual production of approximately 20 thousand bottles.
