Cagliero

A wonderful family business located just south of Barolo. If you are looking for authenticity, then the Cagliero family is the right place for you. Time has stood still here, and they would like to keep it that way.
Father, mother, and son Stefano run their cellar just as it has been done for generations, with passion and dedication. They produce deliciously distinctive, high-quality wines. Stefano is the heart of the winemaking process and is assisted by his father, while his mother runs the agriturismo located on the premises.
In addition to many other delicious wines, they produce a Barolo Ravera, a Barolo Terlo, and a Barolo Ravera Riserva. With the Riserva edition, we have a real award-winner on our hands. One of the finest Barolos we have had the pleasure of tasting.
The story goes that the highly secret recipe for their Barolo Chinato (a spiced wine with Barolo as the main ingredient) was rediscovered years later on an old attic beam, where it had been written down by Stefano's great-grandmother.

Cagliero produces just under 50,000 bottles per year and works with both barriques and tonneaux, but uses large wooden barrels for the aging of the Barolo line. The Dolcetto comes from the vineyard that used to belong to their nonna.

Notable: They use green pruning for their Barbera, and their Langhe Bianco is an exquisite blend of Arneis, Favorita, and Sauvignon.
